(Prepositions)
(Revised 1/17/11)
In the prior examples, we looked at the prepositions:
1) (ek) - out of, like exit:
2) (eis) - into:
3) (di or dia) - through, like diameter:
4) (ana) - up:
5) (apo) - away from:
6) (epi) - on, or upon, like epidermis,
the skin on our bodies:
7) (para) - beside:
8) (en) - in:
We looked at our time and space relationship to God. Lets keep in this subject, and introduce 2 more prepositions that further show where we are in our relations with God.
9) (pros) - towards, onward:
10) (upo) - under:
Ephesians 2:18 (11-22) Explains how we were without God, apart from Christ, and how we approach onward toward God the Father. We are examining the preposition (pros) - toward, onward.
Using God's Temple as an example or pattern, the 1st part of this context shows us where we all were at one time - apart from Christ.
Ephesians 2:11-12:
Wherefore remember, that once ye, the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by what is called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; that ye were at that season apart from Christ alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope without God in the world.
You were without or apart
from Christ, alienated
No hope without God

But now reconciled through the cross and now become near in the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:13-18
But now in Christ Jesus ye that once were far off are become nigh in the blood of Christ. For He is our peace who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of the partition, having abolished in his flesh the enmity, the law of the commandments contained in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the two one new man, making peace; and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having slain the enmity therby; and he came and preached peace to you the far off, and peace to the nigh; because through him we have the access in one Spirit (pros - onward to) the Father.
If we were reconciled through the Cross and If we come near in the blood of Christ, we now have access in One Spirit toward the Father.
Fellow citizens with the saints and of God's household.
Ephesians 2:19-22
So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but are fellow-citizens with the saints, and of God's household, being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being chief corner stone; in whom every building, fitly framed together, groweth into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom ye also are builded together into a habitation of God in Spirit.
So where are you?
1 - Outside God's house
2 - Approaching, or getting closer & closer as time goes on
3 - In God's household and growing together with God's
saints into a holy temple in the Lord
This now segways into (upo) under - the next preposition found in Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance ( + = upo + stasis - stand under) of things hoped for. So Faith is a foundation, it stands under the things hoped for.
Did you notice that in Ephesians 2:20, if we are of God's household, we are built on a foundation where Jesus Christ Himself is the Chief Corner Stone.
IF you want a solid Foundation on the Rock - Jesus Christ.
